There is a glimmer of hope for the almost tiger-less Panna Reserve in eastern Madhya Pradesh as three newborn tiger cubs were spotted after many years.
In May 2009, Pana National Reserve was officially declared tiger-less. According to wildlife experts Panna Tiger Reserve had two dozen tigers after the census in January 2006, and was left with no tigers by December 2008. However, despite that, no arrests have been made even though it is clear that the tigers were poached. It all began in 2005, when Raghu Chundavat, a wildlife scientist found nine tigers he was tracking in Panna missing. His alarm brought down a central investigation team. Ever since, all the Park officials began a great cover-up act.
In the investigation report submitted in March 2010, not a single culprit was identified, in fact all the officers in charge were promoted. This new find presents some respite for the dwindling tiger population at the reserve. Hopefully, the ray of hope will keep shining down on the national animal.
